5 Ways To Sell More Retail in Your Beauty Business

Dec 23, 2021

This is for all you beauty babes who are currently selling retail in your biz and all of you that have been tottering on the fence of whether they should offer retail products to their clients, but haven’t quite pulled the trigger on it yet. Selling retail in your business has SO many positives, but I often find that a lot of my sunless sisters sometimes struggle with the execution of selling products to their clients. This is why you have me, girlfriand!

I first want to say, if you do offer retail currently in your business, way to go Glow Boss! Selling retail is a major way to not only create an additional income stream for yourself, but to also help expand the trust and confidence your clients have in YOU as their spray tan artist. Through offering retail, you are communicating and educating your clients on how to best care for the service you're providing them, therefore the outcome of their service and their overall experience will be elevated to a ‘notha level! This will have them always coming back to you because you are showing them that you know you ish when it comes to the industry you work in.

With that being said, let’s dive into the 5 ways you can sell more retail in your beauty biz:

1. SET THE STAGE

Whether you’re a mobile spray tan artist or you own a salon, it’s very important for you to set up your products so they are readily available for your clients to look AND also in an aesthetically pleasing way that just calls out your clients name, like “BUY ME!” If your retail display does not draw the eye of your client or it’s hidden away in a little corner, you’re not going to be bringing in the money with that setup. If you’re a mobile spray tan tech, you may think that this is not something you can do. But, I’m here to tell you that’s just not true! If you’re a mobile artist, I recommend taking the time during your appointment to set up a little area next to your mobile system where you have all your items laid out. This allows your clients to actually get a look at the products you offer and prompts them to ask questions about them.

2. GET CREATIVE

When I had Slay Beauty Bar, I wanted to make the most out of the space that I had. Which meant, I got creative. In the tanning room, I made sure to utilize the space that my client is facing while I was spray tanning them. I got a basic, inexpensive television to put on the wall that was facing the client and used it to display a slideshow of the specials, services, and retail products that we carried in the salon as well as the benefits and how to use them. People, by nature, are very visual and very curious. By using a video reel of items in the salon, I was able to spark the curiosity of my clients during their appointment. This was a great way to go about selling retail because it basically did the leg work for me with starting the conversation on what products we offered that would be best for their service.

3. SAMPLES

This one is pretty common. We have all been out shopping at a Sephora, or Ulta, or another kind of store and seen samples available for people to try before they buy. There’s a reason why this is such a popular tactic when it comes to selling retail! Most people are more likely to purchase an item if they actually hold it in their hands. There’s something about being able to actually feel the product, smell it, try it out yourself, that connects a person more deeply with the idea of actually bringing it home with them. Offering samples and showing your clients how you personally recommend using the item to better their experience can go a long way!

4. VIDEO

Let’s talk about one of my favorite content types when I’m marketing products - video! Using video on social media platforms, such as Instagram is a great way to get your retail products in the sights of your target market on a broader scale! Since this is social media and you have the power to reach anyone from anywhere, this allows you to expand your market from outside of the clientele that is coming into your salon. The reason why I love video content in general is because it helps you showcase how to use your product to catch people’s interest without them feeling like they’re being sold to. It’s so POWERFUL! If you find yourself getting in your own way when it comes to creating video, this is your sign to just go for it!

5. BUNDLES

I loveeee taking the products that I offer and bundling them in a cute little package as a way for clients to purchase multiple products at the same time, but at a discounted price. First of all, people love a deal. They love feeling like they’re getting more bang for their buck. That’s why offering bundles is such a great way to sell more products while still offering a discount to your clients. This is also a great way for your clients to try out multiple products so that they can find the holy grail items that they can’t live without and will continue to purchase from you.

Those are my 5 ways to vamp up your retail sales! I hope these tips were helpful in showing you ways you can make mo’ money in your beauty biz, which also means more time and financial freedom. And that’s really the goal, ammiright!?
