Who is the Beginner’s Class For?

Our X-Tan Sunless Beginner’s Spray Tan Course is for the person who doesn’t have any experience with sunless.  If you are just starting out or even if you’ve never picked up a spray gun before – this is the class for you.

In our Beginner’s course, we start with Spray Tan basics.  We teach you how to achieve an even, gorgeous glowing tan on every client.

We also teach you the fundamentals of starting your business, securing your equipment and products, how to advertise your business, and creating a luxury spray tan experience for your clients.  You’ll also learn key pointers on how to fix common spray mistakes, which legal forms you need to protect your business (and clients), and how to avoid the potential pitfalls of being a newbie in the sunless biz.

When you finish your beginner’s course, you’ll have the technical skills, business acumen, and Glow Boss confidence to start booking clients in your area.  

Who is the Master Class For?

Our X-Tan Sunless Master Class Spray Tan Class course is for the spray tan artist or business owner looking to take their skills to the next level and make more money with each tan.  We recommend the master class for current self-employed artists or business owners.

In the Master Class, we go in-depth on the things that will help you elevate your business.  You’ll learn new techniques, like how to master spray tanning the face, hands, and feet, body contouring, and how to spray tan different body and skin types.  Plus, you’ll learn the ins and outs of the science of spray tan, like the importance of DHA in sunless products.

On the business side of our Master Class, you get training on how to build profitable upsells into your business, so you make more money with each client.  We’ll also give you tips on client consultations, marketing techniques to boost retention, and how to stay innovative with your brand.  

Can I Still Access My Training Modules After I Complete the Course?

Can I really learn how to Spray Tan from an Online Module?

Absolutely. Look—starting an art like spray tanning with only an online education can seem daunting. But the X-Tan Sunless Online Courses Program makes it easier than ever to learn how to spray tan through our innovative online modules. Our technical course is very thorough, showing you step by step how to achieve a perfect tan.  You’ll learn positioning techniques to get the appropriate coverage.  You also get an easy-to-follow color match guide to ensure you get the right color and tone.  Plus, we’ll give you easy tips for correcting any spray mistakes.  When you finish the course, you’ll feel confident in your skills and resources to get started spray tanning your first client.

Do I have to pass a test to receive my Spray Tan Class Certification?

In order to receive your certification, you must pass our course quiz at the end of your training module.  If you pass with an 80% or better, you will receive your X-Tan Sunless certification. You can take the quiz as many times as you need in order to pass. You will not have to pay any additional fees to take the quiz.

Why Should I Get a Spray Tan Certification if it’s not Required by Law? 

It’s true – there’s no legal requirement to get Spray Tan Certified to start a sunless business.  But because of that, literally, anyone with a Spray gun can claim to be a sunless expert.  Which means the industry is flooded with untrained, inexperienced artists who are giving out bad tan after bad tan. If you want to stand out from the crowd and distinguish yourself as a trained, luxury spray tan artist, getting certified with Spray Tan Class is the way to go.  With your certification, your clients will trust that you have to skills to make them glow beautifully.  Become the most trusted spray tan artist in your area with a STC certification.

What Do I Need to Get Started?

Do you have to be certified to spray tan?

In most states, as of 2025 there is no formal licensing or training requirement to become an airbrush tanning artist. However, we do recommend contacting your state board of cosmetology to ensure that no new regulations have passed. The Spray Tan Class training program covers how to start your business and will give you a Certificate of Completion once you complete the course.

What makes your class different than others? I see a variety of prices. Why is yours higher?

We love getting this question. The simple answer is quality and results. Technically, any person can create a program and train. Spray tanning is an incredibly easy service to learn - once you know the foundation. What separates us from the other programs out there are a few things:

- Our legacy + reputation: Our Online Courses Program has been trusted since 2014. We were the very first brand-neutral, business focused spray tan training companies in the world. Since inception, we've had thousands of women take our courses. Many of these women can be found on our FB group here. - On-going support: Unfortunately, we've re-trained many students who have taken other spray tan courses at a lesser price point than what we offer. While that is understandable, it isn't always the best decision. Most inexpensive courses will teach you the basics of technique which is great! But, what happens when you have questions while you are out in the field? Many programs don't include mentoring post-training- or worse, they over-promise but underdeliver in this area of the experience. Our team of Spray Tan Class trainers are dedicated to helping you before, during and after your training so you can get glowing with the support of women who have done exactly what you are setting out to do. All of our trainers are business owners, certified in sunless tanning and have a certificate in STC's Teacher Training program. We believe that anyone can do this alone but you will get further, faster with us on your team.

If I don't have experience, is this class right for me?

We offer spray tan training for beginners and experienced spray tanning artists. The Beginners Certification is best for individuals with no prior experience, while the Advanced Certification Course is intended to deepen your knowledge in the field as an established artist.

Can estheticians do spray tans?

Most standard esthetician programs won’t cover how to perform spray tanning, so you may choose to complete courses on your own before, during or after becoming licensed. You can become certified in sunless tanning through our online and in-person certification spray tan training programs.
