Three Signs It's Time For You To Hire In Your Beauty Business

Apr 01, 2023

Running a beauty business takes a lot of work! It takes dedication, vision and a sense of perseverance that not everyone innately has. As a business owner, your job consists of far more than just the service you offer. When starting our entrepreneurial journey, we get so excited about being able to be our own boss and do what we love, that we don’t realize that there’s much more that goes into running a business than just servicing clients. Being a successful beauty boss means wearing different hats at the same time to keep the ball rolling! This realization can hit you like a brick wall if you weren’t prepared to be ALL the things all at once. If you’re feeling bogged down and exhausted, you may be searching for the answer as to what you can do to lighten the load and feel more at ease in running your business. Do you feel like there’s just never enough time in the day to do it all? Well, beauty pro, if you haven’t considered hiring, it might just be time to take a look at how you can delegate some of your workload!

When you get to a point in your business where you can’t or don’t want to do everything all by yourself, hiring has many benefits! It not only frees up your time so that you can focus on the tasks that you love, it also helps to reignite your creativity. Being able to focus on the activities that light you up instead of the ones that you dread doing, sparks a sense of expression that may have been cluttered by all the “have-to-dos'' in your day. When you first start hiring for your beauty business, it can feel difficult and scary, but it can also be necessary! Here’s how you know that it’s time to take the plunge from solo-beautyprenuer to beauty CEO:

Feeling Overwhelmed

Being in a constant state of overwhelm is one sign that it’s time to start hiring! When you wear the hats of the accountant, marketing specialist, business development, service provider, etc., in your business, it can be overwhelming to keep everything organized and moving forward as a one-woman show. If all of the passion you once felt for your business is being replaced with negative emotions and overwhelm, it’s time to delegate some tasks! The reason you started your business and decided to take the leap into entrepreneurship was so that you could spend your days being lit up by the work you're doing. You should feel motivated and inspired in your business. Hiring someone to take the weight of the tasks of your list can bring that passion back into your daily schedule.

Falling Behind

There’s been so many times on my journey as a beauty biz babe where I’ve felt like 24 hours in a day is just not enough for the to-do list that I have. This feeling continuously got stronger as my business grew to the point where I wasn’t able to keep up with the demand on my own. I was falling behind on the activities that needed to be done in my business and if I would have kept going like this without hiring, my business and the growth that I was working to achieve would have been affected! If you’re constantly feeling like there’s not enough time in the day to stay on top of your tasks because business has ramped up to a point that the demand outweighs your ability to keep up with everything by yourself, that’s a sign it’s time to hire!

Feeling Drained

Feeling burnt out and drained in your business is common for soloprenuers because we are doing everything on our own. Being a one-woman show means that you have to do the activities in your business that you don’t absolutely love doing. That’s putting it nicely, because let’s be real - some of these tasks you actually hate doing, right? If there are certain things in your biz that make you feel drained because you absolutely hate doing them, but you’re doing them anyway because you know they need to be done, hire it out to someone else! One of the biggest tasks that I hear beauty business owners dread doing is social media marketing! A lot of the beauty biz bosses that I hear from, either don’t know what to do to market their business on social media, or they just don’t enjoy doing it. The fact is that if you’re drained by certain things in your business, you’re going to end up putting those activities off, which can stunt the potential growth of your business overall!

Hiring seems scary at first because there’s a lot of unknown that can feel confusing. Hiring is also an additional expense in your business that can cause a feeling of uncertainty. However, it’s important to remember that hiring is not a cost, it's an investment into your long term growth! In order to scale your business, you can’t do it alone. For your own peace of mind, for the sake of creating a life you genuinely feel in alignment with and for the opportunity to grow your business to the level you desire, have the courage to hire!
