How To Grow Your Beauty Biz Using Video

Jul 30, 2022

We’ve talked about it before and here we are talking about it again. That’s right, we are talking about VIDEO! This time I’m talking about using video in your beauty biz because if you haven’t noticed, Instagram has really been doing the most with some changes in the type of format they are pushing users to create in order to be seen on the app. If you’ve taken notice of this and you have been stressing about this transition you’ve been seeing on instagram, I have some support and advice from you. Many of the beauty biz babes that I talk to have spent a lot of time trying to do whatever they can to avoid making video content like it was the plague. If that was you, you may be feeling like there’s no escaping it now if you want to successfully market your business online. We just have to come to the realization that video content is not only here to stay, but it’s the way of the future in terms of content creation and online marketing.

One of the main reasons for the blow up of video is because people on the internet want to watch more entertaining content that grabs their attention right away. There are many many more creators on the internet today than there were 5 or 10 years ago, which means most people have gotten bored of seeing the same ole’ things all the time. In order to stand out amongst the very populated crowd on the internet, you have to switch it up and get creative. This creativity continues to move toward video every year. Another reason video, such as Instagram Reels and TikToks, are becoming so popular in the online space is because video equals more connection. Although we all have become accustomed to thriving in the digital world we live in, many of us also realize that this causes our noses to constantly be stuck in a phone or computer screen more often than not. We crave connection with our fellow humans! It’s nature. Being able to share more insight and personality through video format allows users to create a more authentic environment for their followers to be a part of.

So what does that mean for your beauty biz as you continue to grow and flow through the changes taking place in social media marketing? When moving forward, you should start creating content with these 3 points as the basis of your strategy:

1. Always Entertain or Educate

This has always been a key aspect of creating content that people interact with and want to follow along with! When you share posts that entertain or educate, the user is getting something out of it. It’s benefiting them in one way or another. You can take the same concepts and information you’ve been using to market your business up to this point and re-work it a smidge so that it fits into a video format that resonates with your followers. This could look like making a Reel on Instagram outlining the three most asked questions you receive while using a trending sound.

 2. Think Outside The Box

Remember when I said that people are starting to get tired of seeing the same stuff over and over again? This goes for video content too! With TikTok being as popular as it is, it’s not uncommon to see the same type of video being made by hundreds of different users. What will make you stand out in the crowd will be your creativity. Thinking outside the box when creating your content doesn’t have to mean that you don’t use what’s currently trending. You will still want to stay on top of trends, but you’ll want to think about how you can go about it in a different way. Here’s a few questions you should ask yourself when brainstorming your ideas: Can you reverse the tone of the message? Can you change the perspective on the audio? How can you put your own personal business mission into the video?

3. Show Your Personality

Authenticity; although it may be somewhat of a “buzz word,” it’s still beneficial to creating connections and gaining followers online, especially through video. With video content, followers can see your face, hear your voice and learn your specific characteristics and mannerisms. It’s the next best thing to connecting with someone face to face during an in-person interaction. If you’re someone who is terrified of actually talking on video, however, TikToks and Reels have made it very easy to navigate around that fear. You can still show your individual personality while creating video and not using your actual voice to talk about your business. For example, if you’re a high energy person who loves to dance, create fun dancing videos that entertain AND educate your followers. If you’re someone who is a DIY master, incorporate that into your content so that you can create an authentic connection with other like-minded DIYers. The possibilities are endless in how you can go about marketing your business and showing your personality. Do what feels right to you, because if it feels forced you won’t do it!

This social media transition may feel frustrating to you because you’re used to doing things a certain way in your online interactions. However, as with anything to do with technology, it will always be evolving to a different level. Feeling resistant against these changes doesn’t mean you’re not capable of doing it, it just takes more work because now you have to learn how to do something new in order to keep up. When going through this learning curve, remember that done is better than perfect. Keep showing up and eventually it won’t feel so hard. As beauty professionals, we are innately creative beings. Drive that creativity into new video trends and keep track of the impact it has on your business!
